Picking The Perfect Perfume

Choosing a perfume scent is a deeply personal decision because everyone has a different idea of how they should smell.  Some people prefer light and airy scents while other people prefer scents that are more dramatic and earthy for their signature smell. Some people just go for the label like Christian Dior perfume or Escada perfume. There are thousands of different types of scents available from retailers to choose from and picking the perfect scent for you will take some time and careful consideration to be done properly.

The first thing that you will need to consider is the price range that you will be shopping within.  Many people make the mistake of trying a bunch of different scents without regard to the price and find themselves addicted to a perfumes scent that will break their budget if they purchase it too frequently.  In order to avoid this disappointing scenario, it is best to choose a price range first and then begin to try scents that are within that price range to find the perfect perfume for you.

Once you have determined the price range for the perfume, it is time to begin considering what type of scents you prefer.  There are many different varieties of perfume scents to choose from, including fruity scents, clean smelling scents, earthy scents, musky scents, and flowery scents.  It is important to consider which types of scents that you prefer the most before heading out to begin trying different types of scents because it will cut the amount of time that you will spend trying scents that you will not like down considerably and make your search much less frustrating.

The next step is to start trying different perfume scents that you think that you will enjoy to find the ones that you like the best.  Many retailers will have a counter where you can spray different perfume scents on little strips of paper so that you can smell what the scent smells like without having the perfume placed on your skin or the scents mixing together.  These retailers will often have a jar of coffee beans or some other type of scent neutralizer for you to smell so that your nose does not become overwhelmed with the many different scents you are trying.

If possible, you may want to try wearing the scent that you have chosen for a few days or a week to ensure that it is really a scent that will work for you.  Some manufacturers have small samples of their products that come in small tubes that a person can obtain to try the scent for a couple of days.  Other manufacturers have tiny spray bottles of their larger perfume bottles that will provide the person with a month’s supply of the perfume and costs a fraction of the amount of the larger bottles.

After wearing the perfume for a week and obtaining the opinions of others, you should be able to decide whether this scent would be a scent that you are comfortable using on a regular basis.  Remember that a perfume choice is not a life long decision, as many people’s tastes change as they age, but having a signature scent will make the decision of what to wear each day easier and will begin to associate you with that scent in the minds of others.
